The Disappearing Instructor and the Fireflies: A Dream Analysis

The Disappearing Instructor and the Fireflies: A Dream Analysis
I found myself at one of my old residences. I was outside, in my large backyard, and my community college art instructor was there. In real life, they weren't someone to disappear off the grid, but in my dream, they had a habit of doing so. In my backyard, they created a vase they (or I) started to paint a dark blue. I remember seeing paint drip from the rim of the vase, and I took a paintbrush to smooth out the paint. The instructor disappeared, and while I'm still in my old house's backyard, I see two or three flashes of fireflies. Next thing I know several of them land on me, mostly on both of my arms with one of them landing in my hair. My mom was there even though she wasn't before. I counted them, totaling to around eleven of them. I wanted them to fly away so I gently removed them or hoped they would fly away. One wouldn't leave my hair for some reason. The dream ended and now I was in a classroom with old classmates. Everyone was in their own cliques, and the desks were formed around them. There were two groups of people-- one large group and a small one. I went to sit in one of the desks and a student got offended. When I vocally tried to fight back, the teacher chastised me, agreeing with the clique that I should leave the desk and find my own. The students were also wearing some dark colored uniform like a private school. I attended public school in real life.

This dream may symbolize a sense of nostalgia and longing for the past. The old residence and backyard represent a familiar and comfortable place, while the community college art instructor may represent a mentor or guide who has disappeared from the dreamer’s life. The act of painting the vase could symbolize the dreamer’s desire to create or express themselves, but the instructor’s disappearance may suggest a lack of guidance or support in this pursuit. The fireflies could represent moments of inspiration or creativity, but their landing on the dreamer’s arms and hair could also symbolize a feeling of being overwhelmed or burdened by these ideas. The appearance of the dreamer’s mother could represent a need for maternal support or guidance. The classroom setting and cliques may symbolize the dreamer’s feelings of being excluded or not fitting in, possibly related to their artistic pursuits. The teacher’s chastisement and the students’ uniforms could represent societal pressures to conform and fit into a certain mold. Overall, this dream may reflect the dreamer’s inner conflicts and desires for guidance and acceptance in their creative pursuits.
