The First Day of School: A Dream Analysis

The First Day of School: A Dream Analysis
I dreamed of the first day of school again, with an updated environment, but the feeling of being about to wing it with students by setting norms & expectations on the fly. Elise was late because of being asked to do a favor for someone, and ended up driving back to our place to do the thing for them. She took care of herself at the same time, but overall it didn’t help her. I was telling her to say no, and I told the teacher who has asked for the favor that I told Elise to say no as well. It was her first day at a new school and she was a new teacher. Jeary Sylvester was in the dream along with another male coworker who reminded me of the older Italian science teacher at WCHS. They were like my “friends” at the job who didn’t take life too seriously. The science guy mentioned he had a created a set of slides that would keep folks informed and occupied. I celebrated verbally, but I think he was disappointed that I was looking at the achievement from a superficial POV. When students came into class, I was fully clothed(!) and feeling good. One student like Jordan from ASUP sat at my desk with her 2 younger brothers. She didn’t get up when I asked, so I picked up the chair from the legs and shook her out of it, causing her to fall😣 Students wouldn’t get quiet or listen to my instruction, and I packed my bag to leave which seemed to shock them. Yesterday afternoon, I also dreamed about brushing my teeth with white toothpaste and it creating pure white foam. It felt like I was really cleaning them. I also saw myself changing shoes in the dream.

This dream may symbolize a desire for a fresh start or a new beginning. The updated environment could represent a sense of growth and change. The feeling of ‘winging it’ with students may suggest a lack of preparation or confidence in a new situation. Elise’s lateness and her struggle to say no may reflect feelings of being overwhelmed or taken advantage of in waking life. The presence of Jeary Sylvester and the Italian science teacher may represent a need for support and guidance in this new endeavor. The student who resembles Jordan from ASUP may represent a familiar and comfortable presence in the midst of chaos. The struggle to get students to listen and the decision to leave may symbolize a fear of failure or a lack of control in the situation. The dream about brushing teeth and changing shoes may symbolize a desire for cleanliness and a fresh start. Overall, this dream may reflect anxieties and hopes surrounding a new beginning or a new chapter in life.
