The Unconscious Desires of Donating: A Freudian Analysis of a Dream
I was enrolled in school at Sacred Heart College. I wanted to go give $20 in the church collection and noticed I only gave $10. I tried to hand the collection person $20 and exchange it for my $10. They then opened their hand to reveal I had already given the $10 bill, a $20 bill, and some $1 bills. I felt too awkward to explain the exchange and ended up giving them my $20 bill in addition, now donating over $50 when I wanted to donate $20. I’m back in college but then remembered I already did college so i'm thinking “is this grad school?”. i was taking these classes and i remember being like “why am i taking a math class?” there was a guy there i was going on a date with and we were both reading these 25 minute short stories in the history of something for school.

In this dream, the dreamer is enrolled in school at Sacred Heart College, which can be seen as a symbol for the dreamer’s education and personal growth. The dreamer’s desire to donate $20 in the church collection represents their desire to give back and be charitable. However, upon realizing they only gave $10, the dreamer experiences feelings of guilt and attempts to rectify the situation by exchanging the $20 bill for their $10 bill. This exchange can be seen as a manifestation of the dreamer’s unconscious desire to make up for their perceived shortcomings and be seen as generous and giving.

The collection person’s revelation that the dreamer had already given more than they intended can be interpreted as a representation of the dreamer’s fear of being exposed and judged for their true intentions. The dreamer’s decision to give an additional $20 bill can be seen as a manifestation of their desire to overcompensate and prove their generosity. This can be linked to the dreamer’s feelings of inadequacy and the need to prove themselves in their waking life.

The dreamer’s return to college and confusion about whether it is grad school or not can be seen as a representation of their uncertainty and anxiety about their future and their academic pursuits. The dreamer’s questioning of why they are taking a math class can be interpreted as a reflection of their inner conflict and resistance towards certain aspects of their education.

The presence of a potential romantic interest in the dream can be seen as a symbol for the dreamer’s desire for companionship and emotional fulfillment. The reading of short stories in the dream can be interpreted as a representation of the dreamer’s desire for intellectual stimulation and growth. Overall, this dream can be seen as a manifestation of the dreamer’s unconscious desires and fears surrounding their education, personal growth, and relationships.
